How to make games and what software to buy

Hi, I am wanting to make a family game. I need to know what is the best software to make games like Runescape did. All help is apprecaited.. Thanks Dana

RPG Maker XP is fairly easy to use.

Games Factory 2 isn't bad either. - You can get a demo here.

Those are for simple drag and drop projects. Not much coding is needed. If you want to get more indepth, you might want to start learning a programming language.

I took a Visual Basic .Net class in high school for two semesters. I was able to create my own Zelda game using pre-made sprites and the coding I had learned throughout the year. That might be something to look into if you want to really make a game from scratch and be able to see what you're doing (hence the visual part) as you go on. You'll need to get a coding program, like Microsoft's Visual Studio, to start on that.
