My daughter's friend have this problem in a Presario 1500 with HDD dead, change it and now her CD-DVD/RW does not work and the external one it is not detected (I guess have to be an OS installed); question is there any way to make installation floppy disks to re-install Xp??? If so, how do I do that??? Or what could be a solution for this (other that order a new unit from HP). Thanks in advance for all the answers!!!confused

Maybe you need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order. To get there you usually hold the Esc key while starting up. Go to the heading of boot devices and change the order so the CD Drive is first, then Exit Saving Changes. Be patient, your mouse doesn't work in BIOS, + - Enter and arrow keys do. Insert the Windows CD and boot again.
