How to make REBOOT & SHUTDOWN shortcuts?

Ok, first off, I don't mean regular shorcuts. I mean the shortcuts that you can make that way you can simply click it and it reboots or shuts down your computer. I know it can be done, but my problem is, I forgot how to do it. Can anyone please tell me how i make a Reboot and Shut Down shortcut?

 

what os, dos commands/shell commands.
in NT look into shutdown.exe

see if u are using win 98 then ...
for shutting down the windows make a shortcut and giv the path as...

c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindowsexec

for restarting ,giv the path as

c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows

(see perhaps the the path i have told u for restarting may be for shutting down and vice versa..u know i cant try them now...anyways..do that urself)

I use shutdown exe as iamien and quicksilver mentioned. I made two batch files one called shutdown and the other called restart.
shutdown.bat has the following line:

restart.bat has the following line:

You can see all the switches if you open a command window and type

yea although if automation is preferred and you aren't bothered about offering a great deal of additional automation other than the shutdown/reboot then I would probably go for a more lightweight batch file.... easier to knock together too...

 

Why dont you just hit shutdown
