    I have a Passport 1TB external HDD in slot E with backups on it.
    What is the best way to transfer old computer files, data, etc., to the new one without screwing it all up?

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions, help, commiseration, etc.

    Just get everything you need to copied onto the passport from the old comp.
    Please note: "copying" is faster than "moving" since it does't have to delete as it goes.
    And it's safer since you are keeping the originals intact for the time-being.

    Then you get to have some real fun:
    You make sure you plug that passport into a 3.2USB port.

    The USB port and that SSD will get a chance to show you what they're made of;
    They will get it written down as fast as passport can send it.

    And that's the moment you're going to want another SSD in the box!

    Thanks. I have been doing a daily backup to the passport. Can I just copy the last daily backup into the new computer?

    Just a sec...
    Been there a dozen times.
    I'll tell ya something....
    I've spent days copying files from one comp to another.
    And when networking didn't work I used USB sticks and ran them back and forth across the room...
    But I rarely used or accessed all the files I transfered.

    Unless your old comp is gonna grow legs or you are planning on giving it to your grandkids etc...
    save yourself alot of grief...., leave things right where they are. They're safe.

    When you get the new one home, the networking will put them all one click away.

    I looked up that 3910 and I wanted to share something witth you;
    you will be quite pleased with Intel's UHD 730 graphics
    But it means a bit of legwork;
    Go to Dell and get the updates... if any
    Dell should have a support assistand the same as HP or Lenovo does.

    Go to Intel and get the updates.Intel's even got a driver updater that runs in the background.
    But leaving it running all the time, after the drivers are updated?? Quite unnecessary.

    And Intel's got some sweet software apps for that UHD graphics 730 hardware.

    Windows will not do this for you.

    The results are well worth the effort if you do the legwork.

    Thanks so much for you suggestions and the time you took to pass them on. I am semi-geeky but nervous about transferring stuff from old to new computer. Your ideas will help a lot. Thanks again. New one arrives today. Fun coming! Gensu
