Could this be something from a Mac? A friend got a file emailed to them and it is in 2 parts.

    One is: filename.bin
    other: filename.wsp

Any ideas what I need to open these?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks, but it didn't work. I tried opening it in PSP 8 but it said it was an unknown or unsupported file type.

    any Mac experience?

Thanks, I did a thorough internet search before posting here. Already had been to Filext and tried what they had showed.

Does anybody with Mac experience view this forum? I know they have had the 2 file thing in the past thought I believe theirs were different extensions.

    sigh

If one file is around 600 - 800 Mb and the other is small you have a bin / cue format and Nero will burn it. Otherwise read on.

The Mac did not use extensions. Each file had two parts, the main and the resource. In the resource fork was a ton of metadata - data about data. Macs always knew what made the file, almost always what program would open them, when they were made, who made them, etc. Changing the name or extension (not needed) did not alter the resource fork. There were tools to edit the resource fork as it had a standard format for all files. Edting menu choices, icons, language etc. was trivial. This was certainly more advanced than anything MS or Unix has to offer, but when OSX came out this file format was lost for the sake of compatibility.

You may be able to get the data from the .wsp file or add it back if you move it to a Mac.Is this a disc image or movie file? I have not played with joining resource forks back to a file in a while, but it is done all the time to allow storage on non-Mac servers.

    will give you the idea.

If you do not have more information from where the file came from this can be very difficult. You might try:
    1) Right click and get properties
    2) Open the file with Notepad or Write, look for info in the first few lines
    3) Open the file with a hex editor, again look for info
    4) Use a file ID program -
