How to optimize PC startup?

My system takes very long time to start up and shutdown. It's very annoying for me. Plz suggest some software to manage and optimize start up?

 

First thing would be to carry out some basic computer maintenance if you are not in the regular habit of doing so. Here is a useful link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106650 On the section about Start Up Items, consider using a free start-up manager such as StartUpCPL to handle which applications start on boot up.

If that doesn't improve things for you, consider doing some malware cleaning if you have not recently done so. Here is a useful link to help you http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 If after working through this guide you have concerns about malware found on your system, feel free to start a new thread in the Malware Forum and post up the logs indicated for review.

If after completing those two tasks you still do not see significant improvement, let us know and we will work on some other things with you

 

Hi, also use the the windows fastdetect option, there is also a default time out of so many seconds so you can admire the silly Xp or Vista etc logo.

Try XPpowertoys if thats your O.S - word of advice though you may want to create another profile, and ntbackup, system restore or similar of your system state - just incase of issues or you want to start back at the begining again.

Also msconfig will show you whats loading at start up.
Could also just leave your system on hibernate instead of shutting down as alternatives.


P.s not sure how easily Powertoys can be uninstalled and what issues this may create in the process. Also if you download a lot of Free stuff,...well nothings for free probably have a system full of spyware and "junk files" as i call them, you needed the files well the free trial lasted but now...
