    Hi,

I have a PC thats configured like this:
    566 Celeron
    128 MB SDRAM
Mercury KOB-810e TFSX MoBo 810e Intel Chipset based.
    AMI Bios
    WinXP Pro

Is there any way I can overclock the CPU on this setup, considering the Motherboard and BIOS I have (perhaps using a software or something like that).

I've tried but havent been able to find any utility that supports this motherbaord.

    Any suggestion you've got?

I would not like to upgrade the bios since i'm not too familair with such high end stuff.

    Thanx
    Jason

What do you use the system for ?? With older systems its EZ to OC the PCI bus to far currupting data on the hard drive... Did you read the OCing guide sticky ?

I use the system for day to day computing needs. This means browsing the Net, checking emails, working with word, Dreamweaver and Fireworks, MySql, listening to some music with WinAmp.

It takes about 45 seconds to boot and runs ok. I just want it to be a bit more faster. I've disabled all fancy WinXP stuff so its not too heavy on the system.

Yes i've read the guide, but i'm stuck when it comes to the motherbaord and BIOS i have.

IF your willing to take the risks post the menus in the bios....advanced chipset CPU voltage/frequancy.....OCing a system now days is EZ the system is stable or its not, thare realy isent any risk of killing any thing..... back in "the good ol days " OCing was fun and was a lot more difficalt and risky then it is on todays systems...I reccomend NOT trying to OC your system....OCing older systems takes a lot of trial and error and know how to get any good boosts in performance ..( that is if you whant it to still work when your done ;) )..its up to you its your system ...going for a small OC wont hurt anything ( thow it prolly wont make for a notacable boost eather ) the main thing is data curruption from running the FSB/PCI bus to hi..and in you case changing the X isent an option...my gess is the max youl be able to get (safely) whould be ~700Mhz and if i remember right the 566 celeron is a 66Mhz FSB CPU ...My advice is to get a faster CPU ( P3 ) with a 100 or 133MHz FSB that is IF your motherboard can take it........

Ok i'll get you the menus in the bios. (Have to shut down first :) )
I read somewhere that this is the best CPU to overclock. Not sure where and when I read that.
    You're right its a 66Mhz FSB CPU.
BTW I remember that there were no voltage settings in the bios. Anyway lets check.
    Restarting.

    make that ~ 600

try 600,66*9 thow it most likley will just run 566 ....if it dosent work you do know how to clear the CMOS right ??

this particular function does'nt do any good.
I remember setting it at the max on a rented pc we once had, which had a slightly slower celeron. It dosent do any good at all.
And how you clear the CMOS?

NM then the only way whould be using software...CPU FSB, clockgen or soft FSB ...thow my gess is the system is not overclockable in any practical since.....its 5:30 AM here and i gatta get some sleep.....

I did it. (Actually its "we" did it (no not you keeng of overklokkers)
You can move jumpers on the Mobo and overclock too.
Remember I told you it was a celeron 566. Now its 852 MHz.
All it took was one jumper.
So far so good. I'm running IE Winamp and typing this. Been about 2 hrs now. No hanging up etc. etc.
    Anyway thanks keeng.
BTW if you slept at 5 am in the morning, what time did u wake up?

I dont think i have yet .....i need more caffine..sorry i dident post sooner but i got sucked into a game of red faction 2 :). Use prime95 and/or memtest to test stability..it might seam stable but it might not be ...small errors over time add up to make big problems..you should be prime stable for at least 12 hours..and be able run memtest for atleast 4 loops....
