    Hi All,

I was reading an informit story about the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition and the author remarked:
Fortunately for this team, it was only the red team that discovered the unprotected system and owned it before it was properly patched. The lesson here is that you should never ever put an unprotected and un-patched system online for any reason. Ensure you are behind a firewall and only access trusted sites if your computer is not fully secure.
Practically, is there anyway to patch a fresh install offline? Ideas? Suggestions?

    Of course!

You can download and burn patches to a CD, or you could even create a XP installation CD slipstreamed with patches so that the machine is fully up-to-date after a fresh install.

If you're interested in the latter, I would recommend you refer to this Microsoft KB titled, How to slipstream hotfixes that replace pre-existing driver files for useful information on the subject.

There's also a nice tutorial at this link
