    Hello,

I am new to the whole computer thing and how to do things other than surfing the web, AIM, Flash 8, and other things like that. I do run too sites but on a whole different topic. Airsoft is the topic which my sites are on but that really doesn't matter.

I have read you can do a system restore which restores your computer to an older date. I was wondering how I could delete almost all of my computers memory. I have a slow computer now which is getting annoying. I got a new one awhile ago but I would still like this one to work better. I know I did the system delete or something like that before but it was on the phone with a guy from microsoft and I don't remember how to do it.

I recently did a system restore and it made the computer faster but it is still slow and I think I may have spyware/virus/something along those lines still on my computer. I did have bearshare which I think gave me the problem.

It is a Dell 4550 with no mods or anything like that. I am running Windows XP with the computer as well.

Any advice on how to make the computer faster or how to do the memory erase thing will be great.

Mods sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything I just want my answer solved so please forgive me and don't delete it.

    -Tony

    Welcome to MG. :)

The first things you have to do is what I would could call general house-keeping. Delete all the Temporary Internet Files for instance. In fact you should have under Program Files> Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup
which will do most of the usual things for you.

Also run Ad-aware and Spybot S&D as suggested in the Malware forum stickies if you think you have a spyware problem. Also run an up to date virus checker. There are plety of free online ones you can choose from.

As for erasing memory - just re=boot the PC - but what I think you really meant was disk cleanup. ;)

If you are running XP you will need a PC with enough RAM to accomplish the job of running it ie an absolute minimum of 256kB but 512kB would be a more realistic starting figure.

    Good Luck :)

not even the most efficientised version of linux could run on 512kb! I think you meant MB :). A gigabyte of RAM is in the comfort zone nowadays, and even more if your up to gaming endevours and whatnot.

Ha if I knew what you guys were talking about I could do it.

I guess a disk clean up is what I mean't. System Reboot sounded good so I used it. I used the sticky and it seems to be running alot faster.

    Thanks
