Well, I just installed a new dial-up modem. The instructions on the disk say that when the New Hardware wizard displays, specify location of the drivers on the cd, blaw, blaw. Well, what's really happening is WindowsXP is installing it's own drivers with no option to cancel the operation. How can I stop this to install the Conexant drivers for my new modem? Thanks.

Let it install. Go to start, settings control panel. Then System, Hardware, Device Manager. Update driver, tell it not to look on the net, not to search, but look for the option that you will choose the driver to install.

That worked just fine. Now I know what "Update Driver" is for. Thanks again.
