    Hi

I need to view my DVR (4 channel survillence cameras) on the web so that I could get back to it from any pc or mobile on internet. This DVR allow me following settings in its network screen menu:

connection type : DHCP or Manual (selectable)
    ip address
    sub net mask
    default gateway
    dns 1
    dns 2
server port (default set value is 34567)
tcp port (default set value is 80)
In the back panel 1 RJ45 lan slot for connecting it to internet

For internet I use a wireless modem (gigaset sx686 -wimax). This modem has ability to accept 4 wired connections and at the same time transmit signals for wifi receivers in range. My connection is DHCP. I am using xp professional, sp3.

So far I could not configure my DVR to be visible on web, although I tried everything I found on google.

Hope I will get a better advice here leading to solving my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

The first question is, do you WANT to view, or NEED to view it from afar? The first thing that I would be doing, is looking at who the manufacturer of the software or dvr is, and see what type of apps they offer for this, or web portal. From there, if they do not, then figure out a solution, that you are not leaving the cameras and dvr out there for all to see, and that would possibly mean taking a computer and building a Intranet webserver, that you could tunnel in through either secured login, or something like Teamviewer to watch the cameras.

    Thanks for reply.
I purchased this unit solely for security purposes and installed it at my residence. I NEED to view these cameras from my office, and since it is web enabled I WANT to watch everything (say for fun) on my mobile.

Here is the link showing its detail specification with image. Originally this unit did not come with a hard disk, but there was an option to get one installed so I included a 500 GB HD. Among accessories there is cd full of various softwares and utilities.

The system is operative and I see every thing on LCD directly connected to the unit. In order to access cameras the unit requires user name and password, so that it is fully secured.

Hope all this will help you acsertain solution to my problem.

Since it is stating that there are various ways to access from afar (Iphone, Android, WinCE, Symbian, Internet explorer), you are already set. As for opening up a port in your router, so you can access from afar, follow these instructions:

1.) Connect your Gateway to your router, if you have not already done so.
2.) Write down the make and model of your router.
3.) Visit www.portforward.com and locate your router make and model.
4.) You may wish to click “Skip this ad” in the right hand corner to continue to your router’s main Port Forward page.
5.) Once on your router’s page, scroll down the alphabetical list to the letter “H” and find “HTTP Port Forwarding.”
6.) Follow the www.portforward.com instructions for your specific router.

Note: Please be aware that your external IP address may randomly change if you do not have a “Static” IP option with your Internet provider. You may choose to enable a permanent IP address for a small fee with your Internet provider, or (if your router allows you to) you may use a Dynamic IP service to ensure that you won’t lose the IP address of the link to your home.

    Hi Brownizs,

I followed your instructions step by step and finally got my dvr on my local network as well as on internet. Accessing dvr on local network is easy, all I need to put local ip of 192.168.x.x format without need of a port number. Accessing it on internet uses my outer ip address followed by colon and port number.
Now the problem is dhcp which changes ip address on every startup, resulting change in my access address.

To me, so far, remedy to this appears to get a static ip which is expensive ...
If you have a work around to this I will be the happiest man.
    Thanks, have a good one.

Use a service like dydns or no-ip, some routers have built in support for them.

Did you static the DVR IP?

Yes, I did static dvr IP, just as if my internal ip is 192.168.x.20 I pinged at two numbers lower, like 192.168.x.18 or 19 and when found no reply I connected and configured dvr with that ip, pinged again and it replied.

Dydns and no-ip are no more free now, we need to pay for their service. :-D

DyDNS was free, they just spammed emails that you had to click to keep the account open, i gave up and paid for the service, it was cheaper than they have it now.

    http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html
no-ip says they have a free version.

The other option is there is a program you run locally that will email you when your IP changes. like http://www.emc3.us/emc3ware/ WWIP (Watch WAN IP0

You need to check your routers DHCP range and make sure that IP is not in the scope of address that it can hand out. Just becasue a device didn't use it when you checked doesn't mean anything if it is enabled in DHCP.

I apologize if I missed it in the thread somewhere. Have you forwarded port 80 in your router to the DVR IP address?

    Does your IP change frequently?
