Trying to use the partition manager/s to 'combine' allocated and unallocated partition spaces.
Am seeing on new 160gb HD (after Acronis recovery from 120gb HD backup)...
    1. 'unallocated' logical partition, 78.44mb
    2. 'C: NTFS' primary partition, 111.7gb
    3. 'unallocated' logical partition, 37.27gb
Not sure if all 3 can be combined without any problem ?
    Doesnt add up to 160gb.
Do the system files reside in the balance of the disk space ?
Am thinking of using 'Partition Manager' or 'Easeus Partition Manager'.
    Please advise.

Advertised capacities are calculated using the following formula: 1 GB = 1 Billion (1,000,000,000) bytes. The computer however will show the capacity with this formula: 1 GB = 1,073,741,842 bytes (1024 x 1024 x 1024).

So 149GB is about 159,987,534,458 bytes rounded to about 160,000,000,000 bytes divide that by 1,000 to change to kb, then 1,000 to change to MB then 1,000 to change to GB and you have the advertised 160GB hard drive.

2 and 3 should be able to be merged after you take the unallocated space and format it to NTFS.

I can't advise which product is best to merge the partitions. I've only done then once, long ago using Partition Magic and wasn't thrilled with the results.

I'll throw this out, simply because it might have a few more bells and whistles. Easeus Partition Master Pro is free until Feb. 1st.

I downloaded a copy though I haven't looked at it.

Personally, I would recommend Gparted, a boot disc that is based on Linux and can be used to format drives into many formats, as well as resizing partitions. It also removes the stupid thing Windows does where it leaves 1MB before the start of any partition.

    Get it here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
