How to recover Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0

I transferred Microsoft Outlook Express, all files and folders, to my external hard drive as I needed to do a PC Recovery. Every time that I checked my external hard drive, OE, with all of it's files and folders was in my external hard drive. Before beginning the Recovery, I opened OE and the contents were the same as the OE folder located in my C Drive. After completing the PC Recovery, I transferred all of the folders and files from my external drive back into my C Drive. I was totally shocked to find that OE was EMPTY!! What happened to my OE. I tried some commercial OE Recovery programs with no luck. Is there any way that I can recover OE, which contains some very important documents; ie, receipts, addresses, etc. Thank you for your help!

 

Look in your recycle bin and see if there are any .bak files from when OE compacted the folders. Otherwise, look on your backup drive and search for indox.dbx. Whatever directory comes up in the search, see if all your other folders are there. If they are, you can import those folders through OE by pointing it to that directory.

Most likely, that did not work because OE was not looking at the location where you put the messages back into your C Drive. This can be remedied by changing the "Store Folder" setting in OE. To change the Store Folder, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance tab, and click the Store Folder button.

If that does not work, use the import procedure suggested by MRM.
