I just put my new system together. I need to reformat the OS drive and reinstall XP. I assumed the XP setup disc would allow me to do this. However, it informs that it will not install itself over an newer version.

I am guessing I need to download a utility that will allow me to format a drive independent of the OS then reinstall XP? I would assume that a manufacturer specific formatter would be best. In this case Western Digital.

What is the best way to go about all of this?
    Thanks again in advance!

I always use a bootdisk to do this i use a win98SE bootdisk if you don't have one you can goto www.bootdisk.com

    With this it work everytimes.....

You format then insert CD and boot from your CD and install...

I think I might have figured it out. I just set the computer to boot from the CD and it is loading now. If not, I will have to make an old-school bootup/formt disk. Ahh those were the daze.

    Ya CD to Boot first;)

Just an FYI All HDD manufactures have Free utilities for Formating/Partitioning they all work great & are easy to use, they are especially nice for Multiple Partion Setup's

There are also free utilities from HDD manufactures for Diagnostics & Transfering Data or Bootable OS Images from one HDD to another:)
