    Hi all,

I have finally plucked up enough courage to upgrade to XP SP2 from SP1.

The annoying little micro$oft genuine star has gone, but now the annoying little windows security alerts 'shield' won't leave me alone.

I run a firewall/antivirus package already, so I have turned the windows one off. This is surely why it's here!

I have stopped intelligent background transfers and automatic updates, on purpose, using services.msc

Could anyone tell me how to stop the windows security alert 'shield' icon from starting?

    Appreciate any input!

    Steve

The little red shield should be easily deactivated, by double clicking on it, then clicking the link to "Change the way security center.....".

Now a popup should appear asking what you wish to not be notified about.

    Hi 'thefool'

Awww, so simple when you know how...

...All I needed to do was read the instructions!

    Many thanks for your input.

    Case closed!

PS...I didn't start the inane stuff..microsoft did...right after we all learned that to stop windows you click have to click start!

A lot of people mispell my handle. I've done it to quite a few others here.
