How to repair Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer has been crashing on me at least once a day now and it's starting to make me mad. I ran virus and spyware scans and both came up clean. I have an HP Media Center 876X so I don't have ne recovery disk. I have all the recovery info on a partition on the hdd. So is there a way to repair windows explorer? Thanks

Windows Explorer is not in add/remove windows components.

Addtionally, you would not get options to repair it, even if it was.

Even sysoc.inf doesn't contain the information for Windows Explorer, and that is the file that lists what is in Add/Remove Windows components.

Regarding the above problem, chances are, it is spyware. the best way to find out is the next time it crashes, i.e. Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close...

Look for a link to the details of the error. There will be an modname.

That modname will be quite helpful in troubleshooting the problem.

Additonally, you can also go to Control Panel, Internet Options, advanced tab, and under browsing section, uncheck Enable Third Party Browser Extensions.


Any browser extension that affects Internet Explorer can affect Windows Explorer in the same manner.

best guess is that's it's not explorer itself that is crashing, but likely a problemwith some software that is causing the shell to crash. Disable any unneeded startup programs, if that doesn't work then ty safe mode. If problems persist in safe mode then windows probably needs reinstalled.
