To run SpywareBlaster 4.2 (Free Edition), apparently every time I boot up I have to manually launch it and then click Enable All Protection, right? Even then I don't see it in Windows Task Manager (under either the Applications or Processes tabs), or in the Windows Taskbar Notification Area. What gives?

Nope, it passively protects you, no need for any process to run, it changes Windows and browser settings to block bad sites.

Start it weekly or so, check and download updates, enable all protection (IE, restricted sites + FX), close it until next time.

Correct. Never seen SpywareBlaster of any version do a scan. Quietly does its thing without making a sound.
