How to set up a WAN server?

First off I have to admit I have never attempted to set up a sever before so any advice or links to information will be accepted thankfully.
Here is the basic needs this server must fufill : I need the abilty for multipal users at various sites to access quick books , and I need to have the abilty the move large files around (SFTP)
So far I have the box I am going to use it is running MS2000 I have a DSL conection and I will obtain the static IP address.

Have you any software suggestions – or can I get some input as to my next steps?

LOL, it is a little hard to know where to start with such a broad question so I decided to be quiet.

However as a long shut.

To run an ftp server you do not need a server OS, ftp server can run on any Windows OS.

While most client ftp support sftp not too many FTP server do.

Search for sftp server software and see which one match you needs.

There is broad issue of security and permission to download that I can not comment about since there is No info.

Some of the vendors of ftp servers have tutorials about the subject you can start by reading and then if you have specific question may be some one else can help.

In genral I would suggest to start experimantly, there are a lot of free none sftpftp server and option 3 that is described in the EZLAN page does not cost a penny. Set it up and get some expierence then it would easier to decide on the big scale.
