How To Setup Win 11 As Local Account (sh+fn+f10 Does Not Work!)

    Greetings all!

I just bought a new laptop and it comes with Windows 11. Yes, I know: Whole world of pain

I want to set it up with a local account instead of a Microsoft account. As you know, Microsoft doesn't make that easy, but THE INTERNET is full of advice suggesting I type shift-F10 or shift-Fn-F10 to get to the command prompt during the set-up process, and then there is further advice from there as to how to set it up with a local account. My problem is this: Shift-F10 or Shift-Fn-F10 absolutely, positively, do NOT bring up the command prompt. It doesn't seem to matter where in the set-up process I try that, or if I am connected to the Internet when I try that. How can THE INTERNET be so wrong?

So, my first question is: How can I access the CMD prompt during Windows 11 setup so I can complete the setup with a local rather Microsoft account (acknowledging that the Shift-Fn-F10 paradigm appears to be a non-starter)?

My second question (assuming first question yields no success) is: Can I set up Windows 11 with a Microsoft account I make (cuz MS seems to force that 'option' on me), then imediatley kill that account and replace it with a local account? I think that might be my only path forward here, so any explicit, step-by-step, advice regarding how to do that is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don't run Windows 11 so I have zero experience in that area. I do however subscribe to Ask Woody so I have resources to see.

Although it is old, read through all the posts in this thread
    https://www.askwoody.com/forums/top...local-account-on-a-brand-new-windows-11-home/

it might give a clue as to what to do at this point in time.

Also are you running Home, Pro or S? It helps to further narrow down the instructions.

Thx for the link! I presume my version is Home. I think I am gonna have to do setup as a Microsoft Account and then switch to local afterwards; gonna research this process tomorrow. I am starting to think that if you use Microsoft Account for Win 11, you need to be actively connected to the Internet to log on to your computer. So no Internet connection, no computer. Can this be true?

Not 100% on this yet, but they are saying using an unattended.xml will bypass that.

Go get the last version of 11 and install it, then you'll just have to update to the latest. <- easiest way IMHO
