anyone know how to do that besides keeping it 10 feet away from everything?

    You can't.
You just have to let them find their own way in life, and learn from their mistakes.
    Just like we all did.

I distinctly recall you saying some time back that you had no sense of humor. You seem to have found one somewhere. :D

What exactly is it you're trying to shield?

    Thank you.

Actually, I have a great sense of humour, honed on Monty Python and THHGTTG, among others.

What you recall was me bemoaning my lack of artistic creativity.

the magnet above... just hypothetical. how can anyone shield those things so it won't destroy every tv/monitor w/in a 10' radius or grab any paperclips within a foot or two?

I stand corrected.... although humor is a form of artistic creativity, albeit an underappreciated one.

Join me in a rousing chorus of "I'm A Lumberjack"... :D

Doesn't look like the traditional speaker magnet. What's it from/in/do?

it's just that. a magnet with no real purpose. a magnet that has a gripping strength of well over a ton! I'm just wondering if there's a way to shield things like that, considering that those things can be bought by civilians.

They may serve no real purpose but I remember seeing demonstrations of these magnets in one of my earlier Physics classes.

As far as completely shielding the magnetic field, I don't know what it would take. It's probably possible to dampen the field, thus making it less powerful...Electro-magnetics were never really my thing.
