How to stop Internet Explorer from blocking me?

IE8 (and earlier) are driving me nuts, which is why I use Firefox, but FF doesn't work for Windows updates and some programs automatically open IE, so it continues to drive me nuts.

Scenario: I take system snapshots using Regshot2, which automatically opens them in Internet Explorer, which blocks content.

    1. I'm sick of being prompted every single time with 'Your security settings don't allow some active-x thing to run...' mesages

    2. IE has 100's of security options and there's no clear way as far as I can see to determine the offending one.

    3. Consequently I tried to disable them all (this took lots of time...grrrr...)

    4. Despite my efforts, IE continues to bug me with a 'Your settings suck' message (see pic), and to boot, it still blocks the regshot reports content!!!

    5. Please help - I edited shdoclc.dll's string table too per advice at the link below, but i still get that same annoying message: http://www.astahost.com/info.php/Rid-Stupid-Flashactivex-warning_t7062.html

    current IE 'you-cannot-stop-us-from-annoying-you-with-messages... bha-ha-haa... and-we-still-block-your-report-too' message:

the original 'helping you by giving you the middle finger' message for trying to view an html report from your own hard disk message:

    Hi

Try in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab and enable "allow active content to run in files on My Computer" (will need reboot)

    thanks :)

it still throws a menacing Windows XP Exclamation.wav beep at me when I regshot opens the report, but that's fine since I don't have to do anything to respond to it. besides, for all i know it may be regshot2 that's beeping at me...

fwiw, i had disabled all the custom 'security' options and chosen 'low' levels in other options tabs, but I had missed the custom choices in the 'advanced' tab. well, i'm happy i got the right one now rather than all of them...
