how to take a screenshot of a playing .avi file??

    There's tons of ways. Many players have a built in screen shot button you can simply press.

    Although, a simple way that always works is to turn off HW acceleration and then just use the print screen button. Right click the desktop, select properties, click settings, then advanced, on the trouble shooting tab, move the HW acceleration slider all the way to the left and press OK.

    With HW acc turned off the print screen key will work. You can then simply take screen screens using print screen and paste them into any graphics program using "edit>paste".
