How to uninstall internet explorer?

Comp specs first:

Laptop Dell Latitude 847mhz 256ram

Internet explorer version 5.00.3502.1000

(no connection to the internet and never has been connected to the internet)

I am trying to install a new medical program at work and it requires that internet explorer 5.5 or later be on the computer. It comes with a internet explorer .exe file to allow easy installation of IE 5.5

However, when I try to run the IE 5.5 installation program I get this message:

"A previous program installation was never completed. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running Internet Explorer setup. Setup will now close."

I have deleted all files in any Temp folder and I can not find an uninstall in Add/Remove programs or in the internet explorer system folder.

I will not be connecting this compter to the internet (so built-in update features are not an option) but if programs are needed I can download from other computers and burn to disk and install them.

I can hit the registry and delete from there but I am not sure what I need to delete and hate to mess with that unless it is a last option.

Perfect. I guess I should have checked the Microsoft database but their Service Pack 2 has caused me so many problems that I find it hard to want to look for solutions from them.
