I have a PC about 6 monhs old, and USB ports fail to operate successfuly, causing crashes when transferring files to flash drives.

My mobo is Biostar brand, and I have visited their website, and the USB 2.0 controller is still at version 1, and is quoted for Operating Systems:Windows 2000/ XP x86.
Is it likely this isn't for win7x64?
Has the manufacturer setup my PC incorrectly?

Why do Biostar have a drivermanager program that I can download but have to subscrbe and pay for driver updates????

Make some money from poor souls perhaps? You don't need or want that piece of crap!:mad Update your BIOS and chipset drivers and see what happens as I don't see anything mentioned about your particular issue in the change logs. Don't take this up lightly either especially if you have mains power issues.

I'd personally RMA it if I had that issue suddenly come up at me or never worked at all. It's still under warranty, correct?

I have the same question as asked by the original poster.

My board is older and my driver disks from factory are not clearly marked.

The board was sold as a bundle with AMD processor. It is called the MCP 6PB M2+. i've had to reinstall due to disk problems.

Where is the latest version for this board? 6.0 is shown at Biostar. Also 6.6.

My factory disk says Version RN4, 10B-NF61.

That goes in okay but if a repair install of XP runs, it spits out an NVidia error.

Mention was made of a utility installer disk which downloads the right driver automatically. I know nothing about this. Who can help?

USB drivers take a beating from the various devices being plugged in with their individual software's, as a maintenance thing I delete all the USB stuff every so often reboot allowing Windows to load a fresh of drivers set has worked very well for many years! This is a very common trick I learned awhile back.

That's voodoo thinking. Drivers do not "take a beating" from being utilized. A driver is loaded into memory once, and used from there. So there is no beating going on. Got it?

Whether the drivers take a beating or not it works that is what counts.

The continuing problem I have is getting the shared files recognized.

Where the work group contains an MSI machine and a Biostar machine, what I see is files only available to share on the MSI. I can see these on the Biostar.

But if I make a shared folder on the Biostar, it may be visible and show the
pipe etc but it won't open from the MSI.

Is there any troubleshooting tip to check a shared folder?

Why do Biostar try to link me from their site to buy Driveragent to update my mobo software, surely this facility should be free? How else do I do it?

They don't - you have clicked on a wrong link somewhere along the line. Try HERE

Yes, but if you click on "Scan My PC" at the botton of the column on the left, it sends you to Driveragent. This i disagree with, as it shjould be a free facility if you buy product from them, or have it built in your PC.

Aaah, that is a bit naughty I agree. What causes you to be trying to update drivers anyway? I have had far too many totally unnecessary problems as a result of allowing that sort of scan and only update drivers now when there is a problem, which is rarely.

But if you want to do it anyway try Driver Magician (and keep an eye open for things not working afterwards ;) )

PC issues, though not sure exactly what, still working on that.
I just like to have all up-to-date.
    So might try that, thanks.

Pound to a pinch of you-know-what something stops working afterwards if you allow any.

You do realize that it is not necessary to keep updating drivers if things are working?
Sometimes an update simply adds support for a newer OS and if you don't run a newer OS, you do not need the updated driver.

I have now found that this collection of drivers is inadequate and have problems running. I have since then found the Biostar page with the correct .exe drivers - no RAR or other to fool with-- and post the link here:

    http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=387#dl

MG is right though-- do not change things that work fine.
