Hello. A couple of weeks ago I bought a computer with a fresh copy of XP Pro installed but it had no CD with it. Now I'm wanting to try to sell the computer. Is there a way to permanently erased all of the updates I've made on the computer so it's similar to a fresh install? Take Care, Matthew.

    Hi

What brand of PC did you buy? as many have whats called a Restore to Factory option or System Restore ( not to be confused with Windows build in System Restore ) as this will basically erase all you have done and reset the PC back to Factory setting, which is just how you would have bought it.

But do even before using a Factore Restore option, delete all your personal files, good option is to delete them then using CCLeaner ( other apps available to do this but this is easy one to use and will also clean up temps and registry with same secure method ) and its File Erasing function to delete the contents of the waste bin ( run CCLeaner and click Options Settings > Secure Deletion.

    Then run the Factory Restore.

But let us know what PC Brand and Model version you have so we can advise if a Factory Restore is possible.

If not then long way of uninstalling all the applications you added and deleting ( using the above secure deletion method ) all your personal files, settings in the likes of Email application and Networking to Favorites, Address book is only way without a XP CD to reinstall the OS with.

I bought this computer used and I think it's a few years old. It is an IBM Thinkpad T23 PIII 1.13GHz XP Pro Wireless WiFi Laptop. I am familiar with ccleaner and have used it on my other computer. If I use ccleaner will the information I erase (for example, passwords to websites and yahoo messenger, etc..) be permanently erased? Could the person I sell my computer to somehow restore the computer's deleted memory and find out my information? I bought this computer to use in my nursing class but after a couple of weeks I decided it was more work than help. So it really doesn't have a lot of information on it other than my passwords and some nursing books I downloaded. I'm really not familiar with Factory restore. If my computer has that option could you explain how to do this without using a XP Pro CD? And also if I use the Factory Restore will I be able to keep programs that came with my computer when I purchased it for example, Office Microsoft 2003, Assess, Powerpoint, Word, etc...? Take Care, Matthew.

How do you reset your computer to factory settings?

Hello. I have a IBM Thinkpad T23 1.13GHZ Laptop computer that I'm wanting to reset to it's original factory settings without doing a clean install. Is this possible for this brand and model? This computer has a genuine XP-Pro but I do not have the CD for the clean install. Take care, Matthew.

When you power up your LT hit the Access IBM button. Select the restore panel and hit restore to factory settings. You will lose all data and Applications you may have added. Do you have the MS office Cd, because thats what I needed.
You will now also be the proud owner of Norton AV.
    Update drivers from lenovo.

Just to clarify, MS Office is not bundled and I needed the Cd to reinstall it.
