Hi, I just got a refurb computer with Win8.1 Pro and want to upgrade to Win10. I've seen some stuff online about how to do this, but am unclear how. Upon starting the computer, the first thing it wants to do is activate Win8 so I just powered off. How do I get around this, like ELI5 style? I'm guessing the key is hardcoded to the computer. Thanks for any help.

Does your refurb PC have a DVD drive?

Ok, the comments on one of those links say to activate from the computer itself, otherwise it's iffy as to whether it will take or not. I've got an .iso dvd made, any suggestions?

Pop in the DVD, and run with it. I would try an "in place" upgrade first (set up W8), and then a clean install if that fails.

Ok, thanks guys. Went ahead and did the in place and it worked fine.
