how to view internet connectivity icon in windows 98

    need help to see the connectivity icon in windows 98. u know how in windows xp u go network connections and it shows u Lan or high speed internet connection icons and when u click on any one of them, u have the choice that says to show icon in notification area when connected?? well that's what i want to do in windows 98. my brother continues to use 98, and i'm trying see the available wireless networks but dont know where to go to do that. please help

    I don't use 98, but I think it's located in the following,

    Dial-Up Networking, then right-click your connection, Properties, General, Configure, Options then Display modem status.
