I've been sent a couple of files which are Microsoft Publisher files (.pub). My version of Microsoft Office doesn't have publisher. I wonder if anyone can please tell me if (a) there's anyway to open them in another application, say, Office; or, (b) if there's a good, free, adware-free and malware-free publisher viewing application available. Thanks!

    Agreed with JoeRay12.
Microsoft has viewers for Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations, but not Publisher documents.
The simplest solution is to ask the sender to save those Publisher documents as PDF files.

BTW If the sender is using MSO Publisher 2003, then they can be saved as Word Documents (.doc). However, I doubt all the formatting will be saved.

Thank you JoeRay12 and Eldon for your advice. I've asked for them to be sent to me again in a different format.

Thanks, I've asked them to change the format; they've agreed; their IT dept. is doing it.
