How to watch streaming channels out of country?

A few days ago I discovered some streaming overseas TV channels that I really want to watch on my desktop. However, they don't allow me due to geographical restrictions.

Is it against the law or is it permitted if I get a VPN or similar from that country or any other? I gladly would pay for it IF it would work and is legal.

A thread I saw some info about it looks very appealing, providing it's possible. See http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=236229 post #3. Might as well use up the the GB cap I get from my ISP since I use less than 10 and the cap is 60 GB monthly.

Does anyone have any info or experience on it and if all okay, would it work?

    TIA.

PS the one channel in the attach pic is not necessarily the one I want.
