HP 1050A prints color fine but black is too faint or non-existent

    Hi.

    I got a HP 1050A All-in-One Deskjet printer in September-2012. I have not used it in about 5 months. Yesterday I went to print something. The colors are fine but the black was very faint. After a second try, the black was not even there. I have attached 3 sample print-outs that were scanned.

    a.jpg was the result of a printer inbuilt clean process
    b.jpg was the result of printing a text file at the highest print quality
    3.jpg show just the outline of the black circle was printed

    Please can anyone give me a solution as I need to print out stuff very soon.

    I bought a new black ink cart and the printouts are fine again.

    BTW - How long is too long to leave an inkjet printer idle in order to prevent the ink carts from clogging? 1 month? 2 months?

    It varies. Since you said it was new, it probably came with a cart that had minimal ink in it and that's why it dried up.
    I've had an old HP that I might fire up once a year and it prints okay.
