Hp 17" Laptop Slow Boot, Win 10

Hi folks. My wife's laptop (I5 500g HDD) which is a about 5 or 6 years old is very slow to boot. I assumed it was software, but perhaps not. A while back my desktop was taking 5 to 10 minutes to boot with Win7. It worked fine once it was running. When I did a major case clean, I found one of the fans wasn't working. I disconnected it, did the clean, and when I restarted, it took about 30 seconds to start. So, my question is whether or not, it is in any way likely, that the laptop could be having a similar issue? Thanks.
