HP 4000 Printer Black Only

Operating system: Windows XP Home SP2
IE: 6 SP2
Hard Disk Free 117 gig
Using: Auto Desk Map Guide Viewer to print GIS maps from our system. The maps won't print, but what does print is the following:

pcl xl error subsystem text error illegal attribute value operator set font position 880

Isn't this a printer problem. The printer is hooked directly to the computer and I've uninstall/reinstalled the mapviewer - still no help. The map viewer uses Active X controls.

Any help would be great. I looked up on HP website but didn't find much. I didn't get the RAM on her machine. Help.........
