HP Boot Optimizer more tenacious than a cockroach

I have been trying for months, to no avail, to get rid of HP Boot Optimizer on my home PC. Every time I boot up, it comes up to try to install it. If I click Yes, to install it, it errors out saying it can't find a file. I click No to get out of it, but it's becoming an increasingly large pain in the butt. I have done everything I can think of to get rid of it, & have tried several remedies found on the web, but it still keeps hanging around. Can anyone PLEASE give me a way to get rid of this once & for all?

I'm running XP Media Center SP2.

I checked Add/Remove Programs, but it's not there. I removed it from the Startup folder. It occurred to me as I was typing this that I had not removed it from the registry, so I just did that. I'm going to reboot & see if that did the trick. I will advise on my results.

Dom- I agree about your theory on why they don't tell you how to get rid of it. Anyway, removing it from the registry did the trick. Thanks for your prompt responses. I appreciate the help.
