Hp CD-RW problem

I recently perchased an Hp pc and and now the Cd-Rw is not working,it wont read any discs and wont auto run.i've done everything i can including downloading new drives which were not needed and also trying to edit the regestry can anyone help????????

I've only had one experience with a brand name computer & burning.

It would not accept a downloaded version of the software. I had to use what was provided on their setup CD.

Try uninstalling the burner software, then uninstall the burner from the device manager. Reboot & have the setup CD handy.

If it installs itself all you have to do is load the software from the setup CD.

 

Ok i've tried that but it still wnt work??

 

What (burning software are you running in the computer?)

 

you can try reinstalling windows and if that doesn't work then open the case on the computer then check the cd drive if it is in slave or master.

If the cd dirve is the first drive in the case then it should be in the master slot. or if the drive is the second cd drive then it should be in the slave slot.

the slot is on the left of the data cable (grey with a red strip on the left) the far left slot is the master slot and the second one is the slave. forget about the last slot as it is unused with two cd drives.
