Hello all. I have a HP Compaq 6710b that wont start. It begins to boot but after the led lights begin to flash it shuts down. I can hear the fan start to but it shuts down almost immediately. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Ty:)

When the fan shuts down, any computer will shut down to protect the CPU from heat damage.

You need to open it up or get someone to open it up and see what the problem is with the fan.

I'm assuming it's a heat issue as well because the computers not bleeping at you, it's just shutting off. I am also guessing you have the correct power cord, it works and that the battery isn't the issue.

The dust that can collect inside a laptop is hideously insane. Even if the laptop fan is spinning it may not be moving enough air to keep the system stable. I feel like a broken record saying this, but if you have a good high speed house fan (think window fan), put the laptop directly on top of the fan while it's running to get air flowing around in the inside of the laptop as see if it boots.

If it does boot, you gotta open it up and clean it out. Service/Shop manuals for older laptops can usually be found through an Internet search.

If this is the blinking light you mention: "A battery that is the only available power
source has reached a low battery level. When the battery reaches a critical battery level, the battery begins blinking rapidly."
That would indicate the laptop in not getting power from the adapter and shuts down because there is no or little charge remaining in the battery. Again, a faulty adapter would not be able to charge the battery.

If the power lights are flashing: "Blinking rapidly: An AC adapter with a higher power rating
    should be connected."
