Unit runs off a HP computer w/XP Pro.
Will not print from computer command.
Ran HP trouble shoot, still not printing.
Scan to print was successful. Cleared spool, ran through installation again, still cannot get unit to print from computer.
Computer "recognizes" printer as being connected, ID's printer model, shows ink levels, just will not perform print task.
    Oy Ve!
    Suggestions?
    Tnx in advance

    Sarge,

This may sound dumb, but did you try to shut down and reboot? You didn't say.

If you didn't, leave the printer on when you do

After "recognizing" the printer, deciding the spool was full, the printer was offline, and how I could reinstall the printer, the HP troubleshoot program has decided it cannot communicate with the computer.
Reloaded the printer, rebooted the printer, rebooted the computer, put the printer back online, even rebooted myself. Tried to print a page, even that now tells me it cannot communicate.
Next, take USB cord to a shop and see if it needs replacing. If that is not the problem, not sure what to do.
Been printing with system for some months, now....

    HI Sarge

With the printer on enter Device Manager and then navigate to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and look for items like

    HP REST NULL Driver
    USB Printing Support

and right click and uninstall them, then look for any of the following in Printers or Print Queues

"name of your Printer" - anything that resembles the Deskjet 2512

If in the Devices lists you see at the bottom WSD Print Provider and in that branch your Printers name uninstall that also.

Then goto add/remove and uninstall any printer software for your printer, run CCLeaner and its Cleaner and registry tool (don't normally advise this but may help mop up some old registry keys for the printer) and run it a few times to remove all non used reg keys, then unplug the Printer and reboot.

Download the latest driver for your printer HERE

**if that link doesn't work the driver is located directly HERE**

And follow the install instructions HERE and use the Method 1

    Go to control panel
    Open system folder
    Click on Hardware tab
This should give you access to device manager

Not surprisingly I don't find the USB Null or Printer Support.
    I found:
    (2) Generic USB Hub
    (2) Standard OpenHCD USB host controller
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    (2) USB Composite Device
    (3) USB Root Hub
I did not even find a partridge in a pear tree

    Hi Sarge

Try just re-installing the latest driver I listed in the link earlier again and see if that works for you, do note any error messages you get "if any" and post them so we can see how to fix this for you.

Dowloaded the basic driver from HP site. Then a message came up about connecting the printer. When I go to printers and faxes that is showing that the printer is offline.
Printer USB cable is connected directly, printer is plugged in and turned on.
Unless you folks have other suggestions, I am going to replace the USB cable.

    Thanks,
    Sarge

Make sure your USB cable is plugged directly into the computer and not through a hub.

You're running XP so I assume you've had the computer for a while. It's not brand new at any rate and likely has old drivers still hanging around from old equipment. You may try downloading http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/usbdeview.html and seeing if you need to uninstall anything that's not still around. I've gone so far as to uninstall all USB devices and let Windows reinstall what's connected, but that may be extreme. I wouldn't uninstall anything that you still have that's a pain to reinstall.

Also I used to have an HP Scanjet G4050. To get it to work properly I had to download the HP Solution Center for a newer scanner as it had the most up to date drivers. I found this out by opening a chat session with HP support. They still helped me out even though it had been years since my warranty had expired. Worth a shot if you've got no other alternative.

My link above includes the link to download HP Print and Scan Doctor. Run that and it should tell you what needs to be done to get it working.
