HP Drivers for 98SE

I have several older machines around the house that use 98SE, and a few that are dual boot (in the form of removable hard drives). HP has discontinued availability for printer drivers for ME or less, which includes 98SE. Are there any alternate sources to download these suckers?

On a related note, are there any printer manufactures that still support 98SE, at least in the form of driver downloads? HP may have lost a customer for life on this manuver. I don't expect support as such, but if something existed and they choose not to make it available to force upgrades I have to select the upgrade best for my needs.

Which printers do you need drivers for, Bill?

I currently have my Dad's 2410V all in one printer, I'll eventually find the CD, so it's not a catastrophe or anything. While I was there I checked in on my old printer, a 960C, they've removed it's drivers too. Very shortsighted of them, because they are destroying any customer loyalty they may have built up. Who wants to buy from a company that won't offer legacy support?

Thing is, the money on printers is in the cartridges. They know this, so why are they forcing people to buy new printers, and worse, in theory upgrade hardware and software to their standards. I'm not angry, just mildly pissed. I'm not giving up 98SE, so I choose to give up HP. I have software that REQUIRES old hardware and old OS's, and there isn't anything equivalent around anymore. Think BBS.

Another advantage of direct downloads is you generally don't have to fight bloatware installation so much, but that is a different story.

Well, I tried very hard to get the 2410V stuff, with no luck so far. It appears everyone wants to link to the HP site for the actual drivers, which was stupid. Again, no big deal, but it looks like it might be time for someone to step up long term. We're not talking about writing new code, just offering what was already written.

Any other manufactures still provide drivers for their older model printers and 98? I'm just interested for future reference, don't think I'll be buying any more HP stuff anymore.

OK, you are living right or something close to it! :D

Here is the direct link to the PSC 2400 Series driver from HP. Guess they missed this one during the clean out.

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software3/COL8880/mp-23418-1/drv_gc_w01_ENU.exe ( 49,705 KB )

Link worked at 07:22 AM this morning 16 March 2008 East Coast USA time - Completed at 07:25 AM archive is intact!

This is the FULL package for Windows 98/Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. What I did was find the name of the file, for your printer, then I searched the HP FTP site for it. I'm surprised that everyone doesn't use this method. It's a lot easier than depending on some dead re-directed link. Nothing wrong with that idea, except when the web page you get steered to doesn't have the link to the file any longer. I can understand your frustration.

Also, on the outside chance that they remove it before your get it? I got it too. So, if it's gone? Let me know and we'll work out some way to get this big file to you, OK?

Bill, I went to my last resort and the download file DID show up, so give this a try.

If the links don't take you to the correct page for download, you will have to register.
After registering, input HP 2410V and drivers/firmware in the search and it should take you to it.
PS. When the ads appear after registering just click skip all. (That's why i don't use that site much)
