    Hello!

Oh boy, where to begin. I bought this laptop a few years ago, so it has some use. I have always had overheating issues, but a lot of the time it was my fault (they put the fan on the underside of the laptop, so i have to make sure my leg doesn't cover it). Lately it has been getting out of control. It will overheat and shut off after only a minute or two of use.

I have opened it and cleaned it multiple times, including very recently. I have purchased a new processor fan for it and installed it (it works, but runs extremely slowly for some reason). I have cleaned the heatsink and reapplied the heatsink cooling stuff (with silver), following an HP instructional movie i found to make sure it was done correctly. I have removed the battery (i heard it can add some heat) and have bought a new cord (HP brand, made for my model of laptop). Right now, i have a desk fan underneath the laptop blowing air up through the fan vent, and the computer still only stays on for a small amount of time before overheating. I have had it with this thing, there is no reason this should be happening!

What do you all think? Is there anything, ANYTHING, i can do to save this monstrosity? I should add that, admittedly, it is somewhat hot to the touch (somewhat above luke warm), but nowhere near as hot as my friend's laptop, which works perfectly fine. Is there a temperature sensor that is broken? And if so, can it be replaced? I dont have money to buy a new computer, so this is it.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me! You guys are so awesome!

Sorry, i am not sure how to edit my post above, but there are some things i want to add. I have run plenty of scanners to see if certain components are working properly (i.e. memory, HD, processor, etc.) and everything is working well. I have updated completely with new drivers, windows updates, program updates and such (something i have never done before, but decided it was worth a shot). I just reinstalled windows less than a week ago (reformatted my HD), so i doubt it is some sort of corrupt file or virus (though i could obviously be wrong).

Also when i put the new heatsink paste stuff on, it did make quite a different. Before, i couldnt even feel the heat from the processor (the old paste was so crystallized that it fell off right away). But afterward it lasted about two days of on-and-off use before it started overheating again.

    Hey mechangel23,

I have the same laptop with what sounds like the same situation. Along with overheating it also runs way to choppy for what hardware it came with(windows login logoff sound is choppy/laggy, all the time). Im trying to format this thing but it overheats and turns off before the setup even loads the drivers! Called hp and they say their no known manufacturer defects. Also tried downloading processor updates (for amds)from hp but didnt make a difference in peformance. Any help or insight would be greatly aprrieciated. Or if you have found a solution mechangel, would you find pming me?

    thanks
