OK, I replaced the 461069-001 with a 461068-001 motherboard on a HP Pavilion dv9700 and the only improvement is that now the wireless light is constantly on the front of the laptop, and the SD-MS blue light on the left front of the laptop is also on. But it has no power! I've checked the power board cable because I thought that may be the problem but it has power both ends. Help, I'm lost...

It seems the board is getting power or the lights wouldnt be on, maybe you replaced a MB, when the problem was cpu, or memory, or still yet power supply. ed Is there another thread that led up to this???????

Yes, in my earlier thread I asked if the motherboards were interchangeable but didn't get a response. So I called HP and they said they were interchangeable and to make sure I emailed and they told me that it wasn't recommended because some hardware features may not work, but the email didn't say they were not interchangeable. The laptop had no usb and no display, not even a flicker. And the fans and hard drive would not come on...and still won't. I have used the power cord that came with it as well as a universal cord that I have.

If you have a bad cpu you will have these symptoms, what cpu is in that board??. The three things that must be good in order to even post is , cpu, memory, power supply. ed

I tested the memory on another laptop with no problems. When the power cord is plugged in the blue light comes on. As far as the CPU I don't know how to test it. But it is on the underside of the board. And my friend spilled a drink on the keyboard. That's why I attempted to replace the motherboard. Unless it shorted out the CPU? Is that possible?

Well i guess if that much water got in there maybe, thats about the only thing you havent tried,Im not sure if theres any type of testing other than putting that cpu in a working MB and see if it works, kinda lost in telling you what to do. Will your power supply match up with any other laptop that you can test it also???. ed

If by power supply you mean the power cord then no it's too small to fit into my Toshiba. But I have tried a universal power cord on the HP that did the exact same thing. No power...

Im going to guess you changed the cpu from the other MB, are you sure it is seated right, no bent pins or any damage, this is the only thing left. I believe you are getting power, it dont seem like it because with a bad cpu or memory nothing works, maybe the dvd drawer will open, have you tried that??? ed

tunered, I replaced the motherboard with another one and now I've got power to the fan, but nothing on the monitor! So I used my PT0904A+ Post tester and all it shows is ---- in the display and the only power light that comes on is the +5.0V so I read the manual and it says that the -12V and the +12V lights should always be on. I've tried it on all 4 usb slots and used both power cords.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the power board button. As I said in my earlier post my POST tester only shows one light and I used a volt meter and checked the power board and it only lights up on one metal tab on both ends of the power board cable. I will replace it and let you know if it worked.

Power board replaced, now the motherboard has power every time I push the button. I think the problem was with the ribbon cable. So now I have that solved but still no video. I have tested the video outlet port on the mothboard and it has power. Could my problem be with the display? I have done some research and tried unplugging the laptop and removing the battery and holding down the power button for 60 seconds but it didn't help.

One more thing...when I start it ir runs for a few seconds, shuts down, and then restarts...:confused

Another thing I tested my working Toshiba laptop with my PT0904A+ POST tester and it had exactly the same lights on...I must have a defective POST tester.
