HP DVD/CD error 0xEB020B88 - new firmware?

I have an HP m9400t computer with a DH16A6L-C DVD/CD installed. When I burn a CD, if I want to burn another one (different data, same data) I usually have to re-boot the system. Otherwise, I get an error 0xEB020B88 every time I try to make another CD, until I eventually re-boot. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit and my drivers seem to be up-to-date; however, I see that there is a firmware upgrade available and have tried to use it. Unfortunately, that update is for VISTA systems, not Win 7, and when I try to run it I get a message saying that I don't have the proper OS to use the software.

I hate to just replace the DVD drive if the problem is just firmware, but I simply cannot find a firmware upgrade for this pig that will run on Win 7. (Running the program in compatibility mode doesn't work either).

Any ideas?

It looks like the second article fixed the problem! There was a value in the "Upperfilters" entry - I deleted it and it seems to be working fine now. Just curious, what is that value used for, and why did I need to delete it?

 

I had this problem on one of my PCs about a year ago; I found this solution by going to microsoft.com and entering the error message in the site search.

All I know is that it was a glitch involving certain drivers that was triggered by certain updates in Vista/7 or XP SP3.
