:waveI have a external cd/dvd burner. It is hooked up to a dell Inspiron 8200 laptop. From the burner to the laptop the USB cable is inserted into a 2.0 cardbus. The main problem that I am having is when copying cd's the burner will stop at 5 percent and that is it. When I copy a DVD, it works every time. Is there anyone that can help me. I am using Nero 8 and have used many types of cd's and still have the same problem. Hope you can help me. By the way, I have used a Liteon cd/dvd burner with the same problem. I suspect the DVD is burning at a slower speed than the CDs. Look through the Nero settings and when burning a CD, de-select optimum or fastest speed, whatever label it is given and try for a slower speed. Also look to see what the cache size is and compare it to the cache for a DVD; increase the CD cache size, if needed.

Those two items may not correct your problem but changing them will not make things worse.

Thank you so much for the reply. You are right that the Dvd is burning at a slower speed than the cd's. I have tried to de-select the speed and have noticed when I have done this, say to 16x, when the cd starts buring it is at 48x. So I must be doing something wrong. The other thing that I have not done is the checking the cache size. Would you walk me through the correct way to do this. You know a great deal more about this than I do.
