Hp Envy 7640 Aio

My other HP office jet 6500 used to have software so I could fax from my pc without a modem in my pc. This does not. I can fax from the printer but no longer with the pc. Running Win 10.
Is there something I can do so I can do so I can fax from the pc again shy of upgrading the printer?

 

If it supports networking, you typically can log into the device's embedded web server with your browser and fax that why. That's what I do with my HP 7525 and my last HP for faxing and scanning. That way you don't have to install their extremely bloated software.

 

I am connected to the printer with an ethernet cable. Can ths still work?
It says it is a wireless printer but I cannot find where this wireless exists.

 

If going Ethernet, the printer should be connected to your router, not directly to your computer. Then your computer becomes a networked printer.

You really need to be checking your user guide/manual. This is all in there. If you don't have it, you can down load it from HP.

If the printer is using wireless, it connects to your WAP (wireless access point) - typically integrated into a wireless router - and again becomes a networked printer. Check your manual and make sure wireless is enabled, if you want to go that way. You won't find it on your computer as a wireless device because it is connected to your network, not your computer.

You still must insure the drivers are installed on each computer you need to print from. I note W10 already knows many HP devices. You need the exact model number as my W10 shows HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a, 6500 E709n, 6500 E710a, and 6500 E710n-z.

IMO, networking your device is definitely the way to go. When networked, the printer can be physically located anywhere. It does not have to be sitting on your desk tethered to your computer. Any one on your network can print to it without any host computer being up and running. No host computer has to open up sharing.
