Desk top will freeze up or just shut down. Ran hard drive test and got this error. We can use the pc for 1/2 hour or more then this happens. System boots up just fine every time but I am getting worried that it is going to fail completely. Pc did not come with recovery disk and of course I did not make one. Please help this PC and my family to keep in touch with the www.

    Thanks ahead of time

Could be either heat related ( have you cleaned out the case and fans?) or a failing power supply. But my first guess would be the heat issue.

Yea the fans where very dirty and we cleaned everything. I am starting to think it was to late. The pc acted better for a couple of days then right back to the same problem. You think the power supply could be crappin out?

I think you might have damaged a chip from the overheating, you might have to get in a expert to take a look at it and replace the part also give your fan on your power supply a good clean that might stop the power supply from overheating aswell.

    what error?

if you think it's the hard drive failing you can get a new hard drive and copy the entire drive to the new one using some imaging software:

I forgot to put the error HD521-2W, sorry. I'm not sure what is failing. I have another HP pc that I can borrow the power supply or HD. Just did not want to have bothof them down or worst case both broken.

I am not sure how to run the chkdsk, started to try it but got scared.
If there is a thread on the procedure could you point me in the right direction or give me the steps, bad sector? I have not seen that come up.

Easiest way is just to open my computer / right click the C drive / click properties / Tools / error checking and then just check both boxes and reboot your system.

Trying it now, I think the power supply is the problem. The fans do not run as fast as they where before. PC rebooting now.

Boots normally, no errors. Should I be looking @ the c drive for a problem after the reboot? Yea I did it wrong but figured out the proper way. PC rebooted and it is checking now.

Woke up to check PC and found dskchk is complete. I didn't find anything on the computer. Normal screensaver. If the check found something where would the results be?

Again I think the problem is the power supply, the fans use to come on full blast. Now I can not hear them. I checked to see that they are on and they are. When the machine boots up they come on full but only for about 5 seconds.

Thank you very much for the responses. I am interested in finding the results of the chkdsk.

Installed new power supply and the wife has been on for about an hour. Fans still don't come on as fast as before. Maybe because they where plugged with dirt before. Well I am hopeful.

Still any input on the situation would be great.
