I'm working on an HP G60-630US laptop. The problem with it is that the screen went black after it booted. I did the flash light test and saw that I could still see the screen, but it was very dim. I just replaced the inverter, but now the screen comes on then goes off. Flash light test shows that the screen is super dim. I can run a magnet over the lid switch and the screen will come back on for a second and make a noise that sounds almost like a fan that's on it's last leg. I'm a bit lost as to what it is. I'm figuring either the switch is dying or the back lights are dead. Any suggestions to determine which? Also how hard is it to replace back lights on a screen?

LCD. You may be better off just selling that one for parts, and get a newer machine. Toshiba is always running great discounted sales on laptops. I got both my son & I decent units for $330 at toshibadirect.com. Mine was to replace a three year old netbook, which I gave my daughter.

As for yours, you replaced the inverter, so the next guess would be a bad seat on the ribbon cable, cracked ribbon cable for the LCD, bad LCD, or bad driver chip on the motherboard.

I forgot to mention that I can hook it up to an external monitor and it works just fine. Also when I placed the new inverter in I had the LCD screen completely out and upon placing the new inverter in I turned the laptop on to see if it was working and I let it sit for a minute or two with it running just fine. Once resitting the LCD screen and screwing everything back down the same problems occurred that I thought I fixed.

WethBr try reseating all the video cables again in the system, it seems as if the LCD may be fine due to the fact it was on with out an issue when you (let it sit for a minute or two with it running just fine).

No luck on reseating everything. Even tried the old inverter. I did notice that the old inverter does not have the fan grinding noise that the new one does. I also played with the lid switch and can make the screen come back on for five seconds or so when I trigger it.
