I have an HP G60 (sorry, I do not have the exact model number handy) that has a cracked screen. I was going to try to repurpose it into an HTPC, but I do not want it to be running all the time. I am worried about overheating. I can set the laptop to go to sleep after a set interval, and can put the laptop to sleep using my Windows Media Center remote, but no matter what i try, i am not able to wake the laptop from sleep using any USB device, including mouse, keyboard, and remote. The only way i can wake it is via the power button.

I even upgraded the BIOS thinking that this may resolve the issue, but it did not.

Is the power button the only way that this laptop can be brought out of sleep mode? I don't want to have to open the lid to get to the power button each time.

    Thanks

Go into the BIOS/setup screen at startup and see if there is a section for power options.

If so, try setting "Wake on Keyboard" to "Enabled". In theory, this should allow you the PC to come back to life by hitting any key on either the internal or external KB. In the event there is also a "Wake On USB" option, enable it for the external keyboard.

Not all BIOS setups have these options, so you may have to do some trial and error. If it seems you've accidentally messed things up, choose "Restore Defaults", exit and start over.

    Hope this helps. :)

This is so annoying. There are no power options in my BIOS.

    I followed this guide:
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html?filter[11]=Power

According to powercfg, the sleep state setting that is avaiable is S3. The eHome Infrared Receiver is listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager, and the Power Management property to "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked.

Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed also reports the eHome reciever.

I can put the laptop to sleep with the remote, but cannot wake it. The light on the receiver does not even blink when i press a remote button while it is sleeping. It's like the USB ports do not provide power while in sleep (??)

I can only wake from sleep with the power button or the touchpad.

    Any other ideas?
