Yes, and are you concerned about that? Is the other computer a desktop or also a laptop?

    Both laptops... both HPs...
I was concerned as this one sometimes is almost too hot to hold your hand in the discharge..

Yeah sadly Laptops do in the modern ones blow a hell of alot of hot air out, my netbook and laptop blow hotter than Hades!

Depends what tasks they are doing, and what background tasks are running, I have seen a noticable amount of CPU when using the likes of Norton and McAfee as the AV, over the likes of MSE and AVAST.

Best is to make sure the cooling vents are kept clear of fluff and dust and never place the laptop on a soft surface that would block the vents, so no lap or bed or cusion etc, a nice flat surface.

Thanks David... we have an old fashioned lunch tray for each if it isn't on the desk or a flat surface...

I would suggest you get a "cooling" mat for the laptop. They come with a USB cord to energize a small fan that helps with heat dispersal.

Thanks Tim... I'll do that... my daughter and her kids have a BAD habit of just grabbing it for a 'second' and then it ends up on their lap for long periods of time...
BTW... I must say this.. this HP G62 with Win 7 really is a piece of crap

Yep that sounds a good corse to take, and I do the same with netbook or laptop.

Dunno they should be fine as the depending on spec they are quite powerful, and Windows 7 would enhance that over XP, many are hooked up too much on XP (it was great in its time and I love it as an OS, was an all time great at SP2, but its had its day) and Win7 uses ram much much better and also resources, the downside is that OEMs add crap to the PCs and that needs removing, also startup and security apps may need changing more resource hogging ones.

I have an old Compaq R6000 that is an old Athlon 64 and 2GB ram with an ATi GPU that runs Win7 32bit fine, my current Netbook a Samsung N110 (actually upgraded to Home Premium Win7 32bit on this although they say stick with Win7 Basic) with an Intel Atom CPU and 2GB ram and a ACER 5630 with 2GB ram and a Dual Core Intel run great.

OEMs know jack about what resouce management and performance is, they add apps for $$$ that the end user in the main sticks with, these PCs can be made to run really well.

;) I guess I look at everything using my general business practices; If a customer has a problem, if I don't already have 'the answer', I research it and send a tried and true answer. Now I understand I don't deal with the mountain of different computers, OSs, MBs, etc., but I believe there should be a responsbility on HPs part to sell a working unit, in this case they sent me a HD and recovery discs and it turns out today I discoverd the RDs were two years old... Now I am sitting here playing hide the salomie trying to download updates, restart, which one do I do not, just simply trial and error you know.

I might mention I feel the same way about my car/boat/guns.
The reasoning behind my purchase of products is:
    #1 service
    All other reasons are inconsequential.

    Anyway... thanks my friend :)
