HP Pavillion dv8000 upgraded from WinXP to Windows7 (ultimate).

Keeps shutting down. Like someone pulled the plug out of the wall socket? No, power. Even when i'm not on the computer. I've tried switching hard drives....same problem. Can a virus go beyond the walls of the hard drive and efect other components? As you can tell my knowlege is somewhat limited.....and so is my check book:( Thats why i'm sounding the "Geek Alert", can anybody out there help a brother out?

I would really appreciate the help,

    Thx

Shut down is heat related, most of the time.

You might need to open it up and clean out the dust. Do you hear fans? Maybe a fan died or is only working intermittently. When the temp rises, the computer shuts down so the CPU doesn't get fried.

The fans on the computer arnt very good for this model try too keep it on a hard surface rather than a bed or a sofa or even ur lap it takes up the air vents
