Does anyone know how to edit a BIOS to allow wifi cards to work. I have a pair of HP nc4000's here. One with WIFI one without...

I purchased a WIFI card not knowing that laptops were type specific. SO then I opened the laptop w. WIFI and wrote down the Compaq Spares # thinking this would be enough... Nope this still didn't work I have cards with the same model # and all but the card doesn't work. I'm guessing the BIOS has something to do with it.

Any help would be appreciated, as it is nice having identical laptops.

what kind of interface does the card have? PCMCIA (pc card), usb, mini-pci (internal)? A model # would be good too, in case we need to hunt down drivers.

The only time I could see the BIOS being an issue is if its an internal card, or a USB card and USB support is turned off.

Do you see the card power on? Did you install the correct drivers?

It is a mini-PCI. My bas I thought I listed that. On startup I get card not supported.... error.
