I have an HP m8100n and I installed windows XP pro in it... didn't know that I'd lose the ability to boot from recovery partition and the ability to run vista at the same time too so I'm screwed.

I need to find a driver that will run my intergrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface so I can download the rest of my drivers, I tried some nforce drivers but it didn't work, XP told me it wasn't compatible. How would I find that? Am I completely screwed or is there hope?

    Hi

As your PC has integrated graphics as in onboard graphics card, opposed to an add on card, sadly Nvidia dont have an XP Chipset driver the Nforce430 integrated GFX chipset, which would cover the Ethernet, Network adapter too in the driver package.

With Vista coming onto the market ( and it was same with XP ) the makers of motherboards and PC, design new hardware that will only normally have drivers for the latest Operating System, many do not have backwards compatability, so you maybe out of luck.

However a small bit of searching for the specific Ethernet/Network maker comes out as Realtek and Biostar have a motherboard with the RTL8201N hardware on it the same as the ECS built HP motherboard in your PC, so an outside shot is that this maye work http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/content.php?S_ID=292 and driver http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/driver.php?S_ID=292 ( listed under Onboard LAN.

In the end I found a way to work it out, I downloaded nforce 430's XP driver off HP.ca from another computer's support site, I had previously tried that one but I mistakenly downloaded the international version instead of the US version (apparently Canada is US now?). It worked for my network card, that's what bothered me the most.

Then I was able to download drivers for my GeForce 6600 card, my realtek soundcard and all the others except my TV tuner which seems to be only compatible with vista. It says it's compatible with XP but I get a BSOD when I load it so I prefer not using it, not a big deal anyway.

I tried working with HP's support to get the program for the recovery manager but they won't send me them, they insist on me buying the disks. Since I'm a college student I don't have a cent to spare so I can't afford that, I'll just keep working on a way :p.

    Thanks for the support,
    Max.
