HP OS Recovery

I have one of those HP’s that don’t come with a reinstall disk for the OS. The OS reinstall files are on the hard drive in a small partition. The HP allows you to burn these images to a CD for emergency use. The problem is that the HP only allows you to do this one time. I have done this once but have lost the disk. Is there a way to trick the HP into thinking I have not done this yet?

 

You can do the recovery by hitting the appropriate keys to access the recovery partition before it boots (F10, Ctrl-F11 or whatever). I'd assume if you ran this, it would likely unlock the ability to burn those CDs again.

Of course if you're not looking to reinstall right now and just want the CDs....

Well here's the steps for recovering HP from their recovery partition...

Recovering the system without using Windows
Disconnect all peripherals and internal non preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Turn on the computer.

When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10 key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears. The progress indicator that first appears does not indicate that a recovery is taking place. The progress indicator represents the time before the recovery process is started.

When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery.

To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

Destructive will wipe all data and reinstall Windows, but this should reset the ability to create those CDs again.
